University of Life Sciences in Lublin

The University of Life Sciences in Lublin is one of Poland’s leading academic institutions specializing in agricultural, biological, veterinary, and environmental sciences. Located in the eastern part of the country, it has a long tradition dating back to 1944, when its roots were established as part of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. In 1955, it became an independent agricultural academy, and in 2008 it adopted its current name.
The university offers a wide range of degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, attracting students from Poland and abroad. Its faculties cover areas such as agriculture, horticulture, animal sciences, food technology, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, and environmental protection. Research conducted at the university addresses contemporary challenges in sustainable agriculture, food safety, biodiversity, and climate change adaptation.
The campus combines modern teaching facilities with research laboratories, experimental farms, and greenhouses, providing students with practical, hands-on experience. The university actively collaborates with domestic and international institutions, fostering academic exchange and participation in EU-funded research projects.
Known for its friendly and open atmosphere, the University of Life Sciences in Lublin plays an important role in the regional economy and contributes to the development of rural areas. Its graduates are well-prepared to work in science, industry, public administration, and environmental management, making it a significant educational and research center in Eastern Poland.

Role in the project:

The University of Life Sciences in Lublin is one of the partners of the project “Protection of Biodiversity in the Border Areas of Ukraine and Poland Against Invasive Populations of Common Hogweed (Heracleum)” (PLUA.01.03-IP.01-0008/23).
The University of Life Sciences in Lublin’s role is focused primarily on achieving the project’s main objectives: assessing the occurrence, genetic and biochemical diversity, and controlling and monitoring invasive populations of Sosnowsky’s Hogweed in the border areas of Poland and Ukraine.
The partner will be primarily responsible for the development of a digital map and mobile application for monitoring hogweed populations in Poland and the UA, elaborating methods of HS destruction based on their genetic diversity, evaluating hogweed elimination and regrowth control methods, an information campaign, a hogweed warning campaign for students and pupils, and organizing a conference summarizing the project. In addition, the partner will participate in the collection of information on the habitat, population size, and structure of hogweed for future research and further eradication activities and identification of seeds of grasses and legume for habitat restoration after hogweed eradication.
