The Lviv Chamber of Agriculture carried out a monitoring visit to institutions in Sambir as part of the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Feeding Programme

December 10 2024

On 10 December, Ihor Vuytsyk, Head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, and David Kravchenko, Monitoring and Protection Officer, paid a monitoring visit to two institutions in the town of Sambir that are participating in the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Feeding Programme.

The visit to the Sambir region took place concurrently with the distribution of food along a designated route.

First, the monitoring group visited Sambir Central Hospital, headed by Bohdan Marchuk. Under the Programme, the hospital receives support in providing meals for 350 patients, which is particularly important during this time of war when the healthcare system is under increased strain. Mr Bohdan Marchuk explained that the hospital is currently carrying out routine repairs to its service areas, including the kitchen and storeroom.

“Participation in the Institutional Catering Programme throughout 2023 has enabled us to free up a significant amount of funds that were earmarked for food procurement and redirect them towards addressing important issues, such as renovation work. We were able to save over 100,000 UAH and are now using these funds to renovate the utility rooms,” said Bohdan Marchuk. “We sincerely thank the UN World Food Programme and its partner, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, for such significant support and hope that this wonderful Programme will continue next year,” adds Mr Bohdan.

The next facility is the Sambir Family-Type Children’s Home, where Sister of Mercy Olga Maykhorovych serves as a carer. This facility looks after just 15 people, caring for children who have found themselves in difficult life circumstances, and participation in the Programme enables us to provide them with high-quality and balanced nutrition.

“This is invaluable assistance, giving us the confidence that over the next few months we are guaranteed to have enough food to feed our charges. We would like to thank the benefactors from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber and the UN World Food Programme for taking notice and agreeing to help a small institution such as our children’s home. May the Lord protect them all and send them His generous grace and blessings,” said Sister of Mercy Olga Maykhorovych.

During the visit, representatives of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber analysed the needs of the institutions, assessed the effectiveness of the Programme’s implementation and discussed further steps for cooperation in 2025.

“We understand how important this Programme is for institutions that care for people’s health and the upbringing of children who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. That is why we continue to actively cooperate with the smallest institutions that are participating in or wish to join the Programme, ensuring the sustainability of food supply chains and support for the most vulnerable sections of the population,” noted Ihor Vuytsyk.
