Aid from the UN World Food Programme will continue

November 26 2024

The Lviv Agrarian Chamber, as an implementing partner of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), carried out a monitoring mission at a social care facility in the village of Zaklad, near the city of Mykolaiv in the Lviv region.

As part of the Institutional Feeding Programme, support is provided here to 230 vulnerable people, including IDPs.

The village of Zaklad has a significant historical heritage thanks to the palace built by Count Stanisław Skarbek in 1843. It is one of the largest palaces in the Lviv region. It housed a charitable institution for orphans and the poor, founded by the philanthropist Skarbek. The building was constructed in the English Neo-Renaissance style. Until 1939, it housed over 1,000 people in need at any one time. It was precisely through a discussion of the history of this building, which is now owned by the Lviv Regional Council, that the acquaintance between Igor Vuytsyk, Chairman of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, and Nataliia Nadolska, Head of the ‘Hrushkiv Psychoneurological Boarding School’ branch of the Lviv Regional Council, began.

Today, this building is not only preserved as a historical heritage site but also fulfils social functions once again, helping people who require special care. And this is extremely important at a time of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It should be noted that this year, the branch of the Luhansk Regional Council’s “Hrushkiv Psychoneurological Boarding School” has joined the WFP’s Institutional Food Programme and receives over 1.3 tonnes of long-life food products every month.

Modern bread-baking equipment has been installed on the premises, enabling the facility to provide residents with fragrant fresh bread and rolls, and, thanks to appropriate kitchen equipment and food storage conditions, to maintain high standards of food preparation.

During the meeting, the facility’s food requirements up to the end of March 2025 were discussed, as well as the possibility of baking bread and pastries for other institutions supported by the Lviv Agrarian Chamber under the Institutional Food Programme. Such an initiative could serve as an example of the successful combination of social support and cooperation between all stakeholders in the effective use of humanitarian aid provided by the UN World Food Programme.
