On 14 November 2024, a monitoring mission from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, comprising the Chamber’s Chairman, Ihor Vuytsyk, and Monitoring Officer Davyd Kravchenko, visited the Municipal Non-Profit Enterprise ‘Lviv Territorial Medical Association “Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital for Intensive Care and Emergency Medical Assistance”’, which participates in the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Feeding Programme and provides hot meals to nearly 2,000 people receiving assistance.
The association also provides medical assistance to approximately 500 internally displaced persons every month. The Lviv Territorial Medical Association comprises the St Panteleimon Hospital, St Luke’s Hospital, St Nicholas’ Hospital, a branch of St Anne’s Hospital and the ‘Medical Rehabilitation Centre’ in Bryukhovychi, and each of these institutions receives food aid from the UN World Food Programme. In total, the institutions can accommodate up to 2,335 patients at any one time.
Olga Krupa, Head Nurse at St Panteleimon Hospital, told members of the monitoring group that during periods of peak demand, hospitals may run short of food, so the management of the medical association intends to approach the Lviv Agrarian Chamber with a request to increase the quantity of food supplied under the Institutional Food Programme.
Ihor Vuytsyk, Head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, stated that the Chamber’s mission in this project is to assist those in need, and assured the Association’s representatives that as the number of patients in hospitals increases, the Chamber will be able to ensure the supply of the necessary quantities of food. This requires only timely and well-coordinated communication. All communication channels are outlined in special posters, which the Chamber’s specialists left at the hospital from the very start of the Institutional Food Programme. Incidentally, during their visit, representatives of the monitoring mission handed over updated posters for all hospitals in the Association.
During the visit, the monitoring mission team inspected the kitchen and the warehouse where the food provided under the Programme is stored, and spoke with the facility’s staff. The monitoring mission noted the good condition of the stored products, compliance with the appropriate temperature and humidity conditions in the storage room, and the absence of any leftover products from the previous delivery. All products in stock had been delivered on 13 November, as evidenced by an entry in the stock and movement log.
Olga Krupa, Head Nurse at St Panteleimon Hospital, expressed her gratitude for the assistance provided and emphasised its importance in ensuring a balanced diet for the Association’s patients. Ms Krupa noted that this cooperation is more necessary than ever for hospitals and emphasised her readiness to continue working with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber and the UN World Food Programme in the future.
Yaroslav Demkovych, Acting Head of the Food Supply Department, highlighted the quality of the food supplied under the Programme, noting that it is very high and that those receiving assistance are satisfied with the meals prepared from these ingredients.
