The team from the Lviv Agricultural Chamber continued its monitoring mission as part of the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Feeding Programme on 13 August in the Drohobych district.
Ihor Vuytsyk, Head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, and monitoring officer Davyd Kravchenko visited the Lviv Regional Council’s municipal institution, the ‘Harmony’ Multidisciplinary Educational and Rehabilitation Centre. The centre works to ensure the right to education for children with special educational needs and complex developmental disabilities, and also promotes their integration into society through comprehensive rehabilitation measures. The centre’s director, Lesya Lanyak, enthusiastically shared her impressions of participating in the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Food Programme.
“Cooperation with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber under the WFP’s Institutional Food Programme is a tremendous help for those in need, as the centre channels the savings into implementing measures to improve their living conditions and rehabilitation. At present, 70 children at the centre are receiving assistance, including 20 internally displaced persons,” noted Lesya Lanyak. “We will continue to foster active cooperation with the LAC in the future, as we are committed to the continuous development of the institution to ensure the best possible conditions for the children,” added Ms Lanyak.
Representatives of the LAP inspected the storage room, kitchen and dining hall, and spoke with the staff.
In Truskavets, the monitoring group visited the State Institution ‘Dzherelo’ Children’s Specialised (Special) Sanatorium of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The sanatorium provides treatment for children, parents with children, and children affected by man-made and natural disasters, utilising the natural therapeutic resources of the resort, physiotherapy, diet therapy, therapeutic exercise, and other methods of sanatorium-resort treatment.
Since March 2022, the sanatorium has provided shelter for 300 internally displaced persons. Currently, 297 internally displaced persons are staying at the sanatorium – mothers with children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
Olga Pakhulko, the sanatorium’s dietitian, explained that since January this year, thanks to participation in the Institutional Catering Programme, the sanatorium has been able to significantly improve and diversify the diet of the IDPs. And not only because of the food supplied, but also thanks to the funds freed up, which are being used to purchase a greater quantity and variety of meat and dairy products, fruit and vegetables.
Serhiy Sarancha, the sanatorium’s storekeeper, spoke about the conditions for storing and recording foodstuffs and demonstrated the equipment in the storage room.
“We are very pleased with the assistance and sincerely grateful to the World Food Programme for its substantial support for people affected by the hostilities. After all, it is important not only to provide material aid, but also to understand and share their pain and loss. We see all this in the actions of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber team, which is delivering humanitarian aid,” the sanatorium added.
