The non-profit organisation "Dream Workshop", which works to expand accessible spaces for young people with disabilities, has recently joined the Institutional Food Programme of the UN World Food Programme, implemented by the Lviv Agrarian Chamber.
In May, “Dream Workshop” received a substantial amount of food, enough to provide meals for its charges for a whole month. Thanks to this, the organisation can direct more resources towards other important aspects of its work, such as psychological support and educational projects for its young people.
When talking to the young people from the “Dream Workshop”, volunteers from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber noted that the young people take part in cooking various dishes together with joy and enthusiasm. This process not only meets their nutritional needs but also provides an opportunity to develop culinary skills, which is an important part of their social adaptation and integration.
As well as cooking, the young people also enjoy the fruits of their labour. They always happily socialise and savour the dishes they have prepared themselves, delighted by their achievements. Such activities foster independence and boost their self-esteem.
It should be noted that the Institutional Catering Programme, implemented by the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, is an important tool for supporting and removing obstacles and barriers that hinder the fulfilment of needs, taking into account the capabilities and forms of activity of various institutions caring for people with physical and/or mental disabilities. Participation in this Programme allows organisations such as ‘Dream Workshop’ not only to provide their pupils with regular, balanced meals, thereby reducing the burden on budgets and redirecting the savings to other essential needs, but also to use the food preparation process to foster and develop the social skills of those in their care.
Consequently, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, as a cooperating partner of the World Food Programme (WFP), continues its important mission by supplying food to institutions in the Lviv and Ternopil regions. In May of this year alone, 134 institutions received 70.72 metric tonnes of fortified, long-life food products, which provided hot meals for 16,000 beneficiaries. The estimated value of these products is over two million hryvnias. Such assistance will be provided to institutions on a monthly basis throughout 2024.
