On 8 December, with the support of Pavlo Muzyka, President of the Lviv Agricultural Chamber, a meeting was held between the former director of the Agricultural Chamber of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland, farmer Mieczysław Duraj, and students from the Faculty of Economics and Management at the S.3.Grzycki.
Mieczysław Duraj outlined for the students the main trends in the development of agriculture and farming in European Union countries, using Poland as an example.
For example, there are nearly 25,000 farmers operating in the Opole Voivodeship, although this region is one of the smallest in the country in terms of area. On average, each farm in the Opole Voivodeship has 19 hectares of agricultural land, so farmers are introducing innovations to increase production efficiency.
According to Mr Mieczysław, 115 agricultural cooperatives help farmers in the province to farm efficiently, guaranteeing slightly higher purchase prices and the sale of their produce.
Students from the S.Z. Gżycki Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology asked topical questions, particularly regarding the impact of farmers on the development of rural areas in Poland and the specifics of taxation.
Pavlo Muzyka expressed his gratitude to Mr Mieczysław Duraj, a farmer and member of the Agricultural Chamber of the Opole Voivodeship in Poland, for his cooperation and for the opportunity to meet with students from one of Lviv Region’s universities.
