Implementation of the UN World Food Programme is ongoing in the Lviv region

November 13 2023

On 10 November, the Lviv Chamber of Agriculture welcomed distinguished guests from the United Nations World Food Programme in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Ellen Kramer, head of the UNWFP’s Lviv office, spoke about the results of the mission’s work in Western Ukraine. Over the past year, the UN Food Programme has been actively working in the Lviv, Ternopil, Volyn, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions. Over 650,000 Ukrainians, including internally displaced persons, elderly people living alone, large families and low-income households, received humanitarian aid. This included food parcels, institutional catering and cash payments.

Separate mention was made of monthly food aid for geriatric care homes, children’s residential care homes and psychiatric institutions.

Ellen Kramer emphasised that the UN World Food Programme in Ukraine will continue into 2024 and will be expanded, which has created a need to seek new partners for cooperation.

Ihor Vuytsyk, Chairman of the LAP Board, presented the humanitarian activities of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, outlined the institutional and technical capabilities for their implementation, and introduced the LAP office team.

The meeting also discussed the next steps for potential cooperation in supporting internally displaced persons and particularly vulnerable groups affected by Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine in the Lviv and Ternopil regions. In particular, the discussion focused on providing institutional catering to facilities and institutions where the aforementioned groups reside permanently.
