The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), with financial support from the Governments of Japan and Norway, is implementing a programme to support smallholder farmers during the 2023 autumn sowing campaign.

The programme is being implemented in the nine regions of Ukraine most affected by the war, namely Sumy, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odesa regions. Under the programme, each selected farmer will receive 2 tonnes of winter crop seeds, sufficient to sow 10 hectares of land. Applicants may choose one of two winter crops: wheat or barley.

Only sole traders and individuals operating in the aforementioned regions who own or lease agricultural land ranging from 5 to 100 hectares are eligible to participate in the programme.

Applications to participate in the programme are accepted via the State Agrarian Register (DAR) until 20 July 2023.
