How can you spot a fraudulent website?

May 21 2023

In today’s world, where the internet has become an integral part of our lives, the number of fraudulent websites is on the rise. Here are some effective ways to help you distinguish a genuine website from a fraudulent one and protect your personal data and funds online.

· Check the accuracy of the names of the websites you visit and where you enter your personal details. The addresses of genuine and fraudulent websites may be similar, differing by just one or a few characters.

If you need to visit a company’s website whose address you received in a link, type the name of the website into a search engine and only then visit the site.

· Pay attention to the website’s protocol.

http is an unreliable protocol, which means the website should not be used.

https – you should continue checking the website.

· It is also recommended to check links to suspicious websites:

– on the Cyber Police website in the ‘Stop Fraud’ section: https://cyberpolice.gov.ua/stopfraud/. In this section, you can also check a phone number and bank card for fraud;

– via the CheckMyLink service: https://check.ema.com.ua/.

IMPORTANT! A scam may be completely new or well-disguised. Therefore, in addition to checking the website on the Cyber Police website in the ‘Stop Fraud’ section and via the CheckMyLink service, you should also carry out your own checks.
