The Lviv Agrarian Chamber continues the implementation of the international environmental project Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027, aimed at protecting the biodiversity of cross-border territories from invasive populations of the Sosnovsky borscht. Even during the Christmas period, the Chamber’s team is actively working to provide the communities of the Carpathian region with modern equipment for the effective fight against the dangerous plant, combining the efforts of the authorities, partners and local residents.
On December 26, the team of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, divided into two groups, transferred special inventory to nine communities of the Carpathian region:
- Skolivska
- Skhidnytska
- Slavska
- Kozivska
- Starosambirska
- Khirivska
- Strilkivska
- Turkish
- Borynska
Each community received:
- 2 manual STIGA BC555B petrol mowers – for manual mowing and destruction of Sosnovsky borscht;
- 2 cordless professional knapsack sprayers MSB151 – for safe and effective treatment of plants;
- 2 Karcher K2 UEd mini washers – for cleaning protective equipment from photodynamically active organic compounds (coumarins and furocoumarins) contained in the toxic juice of the hogweed.
The active fight against invasive species will begin in the early spring of 2026, and now the period of providing the necessary materials, inventory and equipment is underway, ahead of staff training.
“Only the joint efforts of communities, authorities and partners can effectively counter the spread of Sosnovsky’s borschivnik,” – emphasized Ihor Vuytsyk, head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, during the handover of the inventory to the communities.
