MEETING OF PARTNERS WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE ZeroHeracleum PROJECT

April 30 2026

On April 29, the ninth working meeting of partners took place within the framework of the implementation of the ZeroHeracleum cross-border project “Protection of biodiversity of the territories of Ukraine and Poland from invasive populations of borscht (Heracleum)”. The event brought together key project participants to coordinate further actions, discuss reporting, field research and training activities.

The meeting was opened and moderated by the head of the Main Partner – the head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber Ihor Vuytsyk. The event was also attended by representatives of partner organizations: the coordinator of Partner 1 – Ivan Shuvar (Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after Stepan Gzytskyi), the coordinator of Partner 2 – Mariusz Kulik (University of Natural Sciences in Lublin), Partner 3 – Anna Rysiak (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University), as well as Partner 4 – Piotr Kurans (Lublin Chamber of Agriculture).

The participants of the meeting discussed the procedure for completing the audit of the use of the funds of the first tranche of the project, voiced the problematic issues that arose from the partners during the audit process, and emphasized the importance of completing the submission of the full package of documents by Partners 1 and 2.

Also, the Partners discussed the issue of collecting samples of Sosnowski’s borscht in Ukraine and then sending them to Poland, organizing training and using the ArcGIS application to collect borscht’s distribution locations and subsequently create an interactive map. The need to conduct training on the use of ArcGIS, which must be organized by Partner 2, was separately emphasized. It is planned to involve both field executors and representatives of territorial communities who have already expressed interest and have practical questions about working with the application.

Preliminarily agreed that the training will take place on May 12, in online format, in English with Ukrainian translation. A detailed step-by-step presentation will also be prepared for the participants, which will allow unifying approaches to data collection and processing within the project.

Special attention was paid to issues of working with samples. The lead partner provided appropriate clarifications to Partner 1, as well as Partners 2 and 3 regarding the procedures for collecting, transporting and further using hogweed samples for research.

During the meeting, all planned agenda items were analyzed in detail. The partners agreed on the next steps of project implementation, confirmed their readiness for the active phase of field work.
