On 13 October, a round-table discussion was held at the S.Z. Hrytskyi Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology on the topic: ‘An innovative model of sustainable development for agricultural enterprises to ensure food security in the post-war period’.

The event was attended by agricultural producers, scientists, representatives of state authorities and public figures, including the head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, Ihor Vuytsyk.

Ivan Parubchak, Acting Rector of the S.Z. Gzhytskyi Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, addressed the round table participants with a welcoming speech.

In her speech, Lyudmyla Honcharenko, Deputy Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development at the Lviv Regional State Administration, outlined the main trends in the development of farming, particularly family farms. Whereas a few years ago there were no more than a few dozen family farms, there are now over 135 such businesses. Moreover, a significant number of them have been registered over the last two years.

Rostyslav Voloshin, Acting Head of the Main Directorate of the State Food and Consumer Service in Lviv Oblast, told the roundtable participants about current measures to ensure food security and the safety of food products, as well as the main steps involved in registering producers’ facilities. The latter procedure now takes no more than two weeks.

Ihor Vuytsyk, Chairman of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, spoke about the organisation’s activities and those of its advisers aimed at boosting productivity on farms across the region. Considerable attention was paid to the LAC’s humanitarian initiatives to provide farmers with seeds to ensure food security at the regional level. In the first half of October this year alone, over 80 family farms in the region received seed stock to ensure the cultivation of staple crops.

Members of the LAP – Taras Lysyk, head of the ‘Ozero’ Farming Enterprise, and Svitlana Morikyshka, head of the ‘Polissya’ Farming Enterprise shared their own farming experiences at the round table
