The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is one of the world’s largest humanitarian missions, saving lives in emergencies and using food aid to pave the way towards peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, natural disasters and the effects of climate change.
As part of the UN World Food Programme’s (WFP) Institutional Feeding Project, in partnership with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber (LAC), long-life food supplies were delivered this month to 33 institutions in the Chortkiv and Shumsk districts of the Ternopil region, where over 1,700 people are provided with free accommodation and meals.
Representatives of the Ternopil LAC team covered virtually all institutions located in the two districts of the Ternopil region that provide hot meals and accommodation for people with special needs and internally displaced persons. The institutions received the most essential food items for meal preparation, namely: – enriched wheat flour, pasta, oat groats and fortified sunflower oil.
The project is ongoing, and throughout 2024, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, together with its partners, will provide high-quality food to the most vulnerable people who are hoping for an improved quality of life and those who need help and support the most. Each month, the number of institutions and, consequently, the number of people benefiting from support under the Institutional Food Programme will increase. Consequently, by the end of the year, it is planned to provide institutional food to nearly 140,000 people in need across Lviv and Ternopil regions.
