On November 24, 2025, scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Economics and Business at the Ivan Popovych Agricultural Complex together with stakeholders from the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration represented by Lyudmila Honcharenko and Ihor Vuytsyk (Lviv Agrarian Chamber) took part in the Conference “Common harvest: Ukraine’s integration into the EU and Europe’s food security”. The conference was held on the initiative of the Institute of Village Development and Rural Territories of the Polish Academy of Sciences and took place in a hybrid format of participation. (photo 1) The director of the Institute, professor Monika Stanni, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcoming speech, who noted the importance of a broad discussion in the countries of the community of the accession of new countries and the development of the agricultural sector and rural areas, taking into account the expansion of the supply of products on the EU internal market.
Professor Monika Stani’s report paid close attention to the Institute’s extensive cooperation with scientific institutions and universities in Ukraine and the organization of joint research programs. (photo 2) In the framework of the first part of the conference, which was moderated by Dr. Paulina Sobesiak-Penshko, the report “Divided crops” was presented, which became the beginning of a discussion with the participation of scientists from Poland and Ukraine. The report was prepared with the support of the Stefan Batorego Foundation. The report describes in detail the potential and opportunities for the development of agriculture in the two countries, emphasizing possible weaknesses and strengthening synergies in the cooperation of agro-food sub-complexes. In the second part of the conference, there was a broad discussion of the issues of food security in Europe under the condition of increasing climatic and phytosanitary risks in trade and differences in the concentration of land resources. The scientists came to a conclusion regarding the need for changes to the support programs in the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU, subject to the accession of new countries to the community. (photo 3) Grzegorz Brodziak, chairman of the supervisory board of the company “Goodvalley Agro SA”, spoke about the successful experience of the development of the livestock industry in Ukraine and Poland, noting the positive synergy of investments in the agriculture of Ukraine and Poland. (photo 4) Conference participants from the department emphasized that constructive dialogue and joint project initiatives of scientists of Ukraine and Poland contribute to finding new ways of cooperation to ensure the sustainable development of agriculture and guarantee food security in Europe.
