Role in the project:
Within the framework of the project “Protection of biodiversity of transboundary territories of Ukraine and Poland from invasive populations of hogweed (Heracleum spp.)” Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S.Z. Gzhytskyi performs a set of tasks, including:
- conducting field studies to assess the age structure and viability of hogweed populations in nine territorial communities of the Lviv region;
- selecting and establishing trial plots to test the effectiveness of various methods of hogweed eradication;
- selecting soil and plant material for laboratory studies;
- analyzing the impact of hogweed on soil conditions and forming a joint database together with Polish partners;
- preparing and conducting training for representatives of territorial communities and municipal enterprises on modern approaches to combating invasive species.
The implementation of these tasks will contribute to the creation of scientifically sound solutions for controlling hogweed, developing effective systems for its elimination and soil recultivation.
