Monitoring is an important component of the institutional nutrition program

January 27 2025

Within the framework of the UN WFP Institutional Nutrition Program, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber not only provides food aid to institutions, but also has the responsibility of monitoring the preservation and use of products, establishing contacts with beneficiaries, for a better understanding of the effectiveness Program and its improvement. For this purpose, regular monitoring of institutions participating in the Program is carried out.

On January 24, a monitoring group consisting of the Chairman of the Chamber Igor Vujtsyk, regional coordinator Anna Kushchak and monitoring officer David Kravchenko visited two institutions in Lviv – KNP ENT “Lviv oncology regional treatment and diagnostic center” and the communal institution of mixed type “Lviv city center of social services and rehabilitation “Zherelo”.

Both institutions have been participants of the Institutional Nutrition Program for over a year. According to Volodymyr Ludchak, medical director of the Oncology Center, during 2024, thanks to the food aid received, cost savings amounted to UAH 384,000. These funds are intended for the purchase of medical preparations for the treatment of patients.

More than 450 people receive treatment every month in this medical institution. Approximately 10 percent of them are internally displaced persons. Dietitian Olga Dzyuriy said that the received products made it possible to expand and improve the menu for patients. Since there is enough flour in the hospital, they started making pancakes, baking buns and pies. The kitchen staff speaks highly of the quality of all products.

The monitoring group inspected the premises of the kitchen, warehouse, got acquainted with the documentation on accounting and use of products. Everything meets the established requirements, there were no comments about the medical facility.

Lviv city center of social services and rehabilitation “Zherelo” is equipped with the most modern technologies. With the help of charitable organizations, the former unfinished kindergarten turned into a modern space for the rehabilitation of children and adults with severe forms of disability. 130 children and 120 adults, including 90 internally displaced persons, are being rehabilitated here. Almost 80 percent of them are non-walkers and are in wheelchairs. Wards are at the Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They receive two hot meals. The Center has more than 100 employees.

The Director of the Center, Zoreslava Lyulchak, familiarized the members of the monitoring group with the specifics of the institution’s work, talked about the needs and challenges facing the institution and conducted a tour of the rehabilitation complex.

“In addition to this facility, the Center includes two more locations in Lviv. It is a night shelter for the homeless and a food distribution point. Every day, 150 people receive hot meals at these locations. In general, the Center takes care of almost 300 needy people, and we really need the products provided under the Institutional Nutrition Program,” Ms. Zoreslava said.

The head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber Ihor Vuytsyk noted that the Lviv city center of social services and rehabilitation “Zherelo” is one of the best rehabilitation institutions in the Lviv region, including due to the support of charitable organizations. “The Lviv Agrarian Chamber, in cooperation with the UN World Food Program, will continue cooperation with the Center in 2025. Monthly supplies of food for the Center’s wards will be delivered, and with this we will become part of a community that helps people who are in difficult living conditions and need the support of society,” said Ihor Vuytsyk.
