On 17 July, representatives of the Lviv Agricultural Chamber visited the Pilgrim’s House attached to the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Stradch, as well as the municipal facility ‘Kornalovychi Social Support Centre for Children and the Elderly of the Novokalynivska City Council’ in the village of Kornalovychi and the Lviv Regional Council’s municipal facility ‘Bukiv Children’s Residential Care Home’.
All these institutions are participants in the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Feeding Programme and receive long-life food products.
The impressions from the trip were excellent. The storage, accounting and use of the provided foodstuffs in all institutions are at the required standard; the storage facilities are clean, dry and equipped with temperature and humidity monitoring devices; the foodstuffs are used in accordance with the Programme’s requirements.
Almost 30 internally displaced persons have found shelter at the Pilgrim’s House attached to the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They receive accommodation and meals free of charge.
“All our social projects, including the shelter for internally displaced persons, are made possible thanks to private donations and the support of international donors,” says Father Ivan Koltun, parish priest of the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Participation in the Institutional Food Programme is extremely important to us, as we have a reliable and stable supply of food and do not have to worry about the funds to purchase it. We extend our sincere thanks for this assistance to the UN World Food Programme and the Lviv Agrarian Chamber.”
The municipal institution “Kornalovychi Home for Social Support of Children and the Elderly of the Novokalynivska City Council” cares for 45 people with disabilities, including internally displaced persons. This month, the facility received almost 300 kg of food: flour, pasta, oil, oats, buckwheat, peas and sugar.
“We are very pleased with the aid we have received. The food is of high quality, fresh, and our residents enjoy eating it. Thanks to the Programme, we are able to improve the diet and quality of food for the people living here. Thank you very much!” said the facility’s director, Maria Yanushevich.

Mykola Stryukov, head of the Bukivskyi Children’s Home and Boarding School, showed representatives of the monitoring group the refurbished storage room, equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation and a modern heat recovery unit to maintain the necessary humidity and temperature parameters for storing bulk products, as well as the dining room and kitchen facilities.
While speaking with the staff of the residential care home, Ihor Vuytsyk emphasised the importance of adhering to storage conditions and keeping records of received products.
“Our facility is located in a remote area; we rarely receive visits from benefactors, so the assistance we receive through the Institutional Food Programme is very important and timely. Thanks to the Programme, 110 children are receiving better and more balanced nutrition. We are grateful for the assistance provided and, of course, look forward to continuing our cooperation with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber and the UN World Food Programme,” said Mykola Stryukov.
