On 24 June, Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S.Z. Gzhytsky hosted the closing event of Lviv Veterinary Weekend and a conference as part of the international VetHeritage project.
The conference, entitled “An Innovative Approach to Historical Heritage: The Scientific Heritage of Veterinary Medicine in the Ukrainian-Polish Border Region” (VetHeritage), was attended by Pavlo Muzyka, President of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, alongside academics, representatives of state authorities, veterinary surgeons and representatives of international veterinary organisations.
Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, and Yuriy Radelitskyi, Chair of the Lviv Regional Council Committee, addressed the conference participants with welcoming remarks.
Oleg Fedets, Vice-Rector for Research at the university, noted that this event was not only about the history of the Imperial-Royal Veterinary School, but also about cooperation and solidarity during the war between scientists and veterinary specialists in Ukraine and EU countries.
Significant attention during the conference was paid to the current state of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. In particular, the presentations by Mykhailo Tuyakhov, Deputy Head of the Department for the Organisation of Anti-Epizootic Measures at the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, were both interesting and informative.
Presentations by international colleagues were also highly relevant, notably those by Rafael Langes, President of the World Federation of Veterinarians, and Giovanna Guadagnini, Vice-President of the European Federation of Practising Veterinarians.
VetHeritage project coordinator Alla Vinyarska spoke about the main stages of the project’s implementation and achievements aimed at further deepening cross-border cooperation.
Significant attention at the conference was paid to the organisation of university activities during martial law and the practical training of veterinary surgeons.
Presentations by members of the NGO “Union of Veterinary Practice Owners”, professors and veterinary surgeons from Poland were of particular relevance.
