New approaches to the work of agricultural advisory services

March 24 2024

On Friday, 22 March, the Lviv Regional State Laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection hosted the continuation of a training-of-trainers programme on new approaches to the work of advisory services and advisors in today’s digitally-oriented world, aimed at improving the efficiency of fruit and vegetable production and sales.

Graham Dale and Andriy Halyas, experts from the EU Project ‘Institutional and Policy Reform of Small-Scale Agriculture in Ukraine’ (IPRSA), introduced participants to the production and processing of fruit and vegetable products.

Erika Shapochka, chair of the ‘Dary Berehivshchyny’ agricultural cooperative, shared her invaluable experience and useful advice on simplifying the process to achieve goals. She told those present about the daily challenges and procedures involved in joint consolidated sales of fruit and berry produce for export by groups of farmers from Zakarpattia.

Extremely useful information regarding updates to current and planned FAO grant programmes and the application process was provided by Hanna Antoniuk, Head of the Lviv Office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and Ivan Koryakin, FAO business plan writing trainer.

All training participants took part in discussions, questions and answers regarding value chains and market infrastructure in the berry sector.

Summing up the event, Richard Rozwadowski – a key expert of the EU project ‘Institutional and Policy Reform of Small-Scale Agriculture in Ukraine’ (IPRSA), together with the head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, Ihor Vuytsyk, presented the participants with certificates of successful completion of the course on improving the efficiency of growing and selling fruit and vegetable produce.
