On 24 September this year, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, in collaboration with the Italian social cooperative ‘Pausa Caffè’ and with the support of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, organised its third humanitarian aid campaign for small farms in the Lviv region since the start of the full-scale war.

The Anisia Credit Union also joined the event, having successfully worked to ensure the financial well-being of smallholder farms and legal entities. The main aim of the event was to support agricultural producers by providing seed material. This initiative is a vital element in ensuring food security and the stability of agriculture, which is particularly relevant in the context of war and economic hardship.

64 farmers received high-quality winter wheat seed of the Benefis variety, first-generation seed with a yield potential of up to 8.7 tonnes per hectare, which will help renew the seed potential of these farms and improve the quality of production. Such support not only helps to increase yields but also helps to preserve jobs in the agricultural sector and support the region’s economy.

It should be noted that this initiative will continue in 2025. According to the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Lviv Agrarian Chamber and the Italian social cooperative ‘Pausa Caffè’, farms that have received seeds and grown high-quality grain will be able to export it to Italy.

Consequently, in the establishments run by the ‘Pausa Caffè’ social cooperative, flour will be made from this grain and sourdough bread will be baked. This bread will be sold through the well-known Italian retail chain ‘Cub’. Each packet of bread will bear the inscription ‘Bread for Peace in Ukraine’, symbolising support for Ukrainian farmers during the war. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each loaf will go towards helping farmers in the Lviv region.

Incidentally, over the past three years, this project has already provided significant assistance to over 220 farmers and small farming enterprises, who have benefited from this support and been able to continue their work, providing vital resources for their families and the economy of the Lviv region.
