Working together to improve the living conditions and health of vulnerable groups

March 4 2024

As part of the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) Institutional Feeding Programme, in partnership with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, institutions in the Lviv region that care for socially vulnerable groups and internally displaced persons received substantial support in the form of long-life food supplies for the second time this February.

In the Zolochiv district, volunteers from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber visited 12 institutions this month. These include hospitals, social service centres, children’s homes and specialist clinics. In particular, the Busk Territorial Centre for Social Services and the Centre for Social Services of the Zolochiv City Council, which provide social support and services to 145 people from the local population and IDPs. The aid they have received will ensure that these individuals, who are under state care, are provided with high-quality food.

In addition, the Busk Central Hospital, the Krasne Town Hospital, and the Brody Central Town Hospital, which provide medical care to residents of the district, received food supplies for 450 patients. In total, 2.9 tonnes of food – flour, oil, pasta and oatmeal – were delivered to the hospitals.

"The Institutional Food Programme helps to enrich hospital menus, provides patients with the necessary resources for recovery, and enables significant savings in budget funds. We are sincerely grateful to the UN World Food Programme and the Lviv Agrarian Chamber for such support. As the Institutional Food Programme will run throughout the year, this will allow for significant savings on budgetary expenditure on food and enable these funds to be redirected towards improving patients’ conditions, developing social programmes, upgrading medical equipment and purchasing essential medicines”

"This initiative is an example of how cooperation between the public sector and international organisations can help improve living conditions and health, particularly for vulnerable groups," said Myroslav Tymus, Chief Medical Officer of Brody Central City Hospital.
