Thanks to a partnership with the UN World Food Programme, the Lviv Agrarian Chamber provided humanitarian aid throughout January to 8,175 beneficiaries who are being housed and fed free of charge in shelters and social institutions caring for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and particularly vulnerable groups.
Long-life foodstuffs, such as premium-grade wheat flour, as well as pasta, oat groats and fortified sunflower oil, at a rate of 6.42 kg per person, were received by 54 institutions in the Lviv region and 33 in the Ternopil region.
It is important to note that they will receive this aid monthly, throughout the year, and from the second quarter of this year, buckwheat, peas and sugar will be added to the list of products supplied to the institutions. An increase in the number of institutions covered by the Institutional Food Programme is also expected. In particular, food supplies are already planned for 98 institutions in February. Consequently, the number of beneficiaries will also rise.
The issue of expanding the Institutional Food Programme was discussed at a meeting between representatives of the UN WFP’s Lviv and Kyiv offices and the team from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, which took place on 1 February in Ternopil.
The purpose of the visit to the Ternopil region was to inspect the warehouse where products intended for delivery to institutions are stored, and to assess the warehouse’s capacity in light of the increased volume of these products.
During the meeting, the results of the implementation of the Institutional Food Programme in January this year were analysed and plans for the coming period were discussed.
