Ukrainian village on the way to the European Union

On December 1, 2025, at the initiative of the Institute of Rural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, a seminar “Ukrainian villages on the way to the European Union: from data to political recommendations” was held in Warsaw in a hybrid format. The seminar was attended by the head of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber Ihor Vujtsyk, scientists of the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology S.Z.Gzhitskyi.

The director of IRWiR PAN, professor Monika Stanni, addressed the participants of the seminar with a welcoming speech, who noted the importance of constructive discussion by scientists and practitioners on the issue of integration of new countries into the EU. This dialogue is facilitated by the close cooperation of IRWiR PAN with scientists from Lviv Oblast and Kyiv.

Professor Olena Borodina spoke in detail about the efficiency of land resource use and food security in rural areas of Ukraine.

Professor Iryna Maidanyk described in detail the demographic trends in the rural areas of Ukraine and outlined forecast trends.

Professor Olha Mulska in her speech noted regional trends in the distribution of sociological views on issues of European integration.

Professor Sahin Shan in his speech outlined the features of the transformative adaptability of the condition of resilience of the agricultural sector of Ukraine.

Deputy director of IRWiR PAN Pavel Khmelinsky noted the main challenges for rural areas in the conditions of European integration.

Professor of IRWiR PAN Vitaly Krupin updated the issue of financial support for European integration processes from EU structural funds.

Professor Oksana Sakal emphasized the importance of maintaining soil fertility at an appropriate level in order to further guarantee food security.

Professor of IRWiR PAN Slawomir Kalinovski outlined in detail possible challenges for rural areas in the conditions of European integration, which require proper institutional support in order to avoid negative trends.

As part of the seminar, topical discussions were held on the topics of promoting Ukraine’s integration into the EU and the development of rural areas.

The Lviv Agrarian Chamber makes a significant contribution to ensuring the sustainable development of rural areas together with the Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after S.Z.Gzhitskyi by implementing a joint project to protect the biodiversity of cross-border areas.
