On 4 July, representatives of the Lviv Agrarian Chamber visited institutions within the Zhovkivska territorial community participating in the Institutional Catering Programme as part of a monitoring mission.
In particular, the head of the Chamber, Ihor Vuytsyk, and the Programme’s regional coordinator, Anna Kushchak, visited the Lviv Regional Council’s municipal facility, the ‘Zlagoda’ Multidisciplinary Educational and Rehabilitation Centre, where 160 children with disabilities study and live. During the visit, they inspected the kitchen and the storeroom where the food is kept, and spoke with the institution’s staff.
Galina Kufalska, Head of the Educational Department, noted that the donated food is of very good quality and that the pupils really enjoy the meals prepared from it. The children particularly love the baked goods – pies, buns and croissants – which the cooks prepare regularly, as the kitchen is equipped with a powerful electric oven.

Ihor Vuytsyk emphasised the importance of adhering to the storage conditions for the donated products, informed the staff of the need to strictly maintain the correct temperature and humidity levels in the storage room, and also noted the need to keep a record of the expiry dates of products received from the UN World Food Programme.
Representatives of the monitoring group also provided two posters for display in the facility – which had not been displayed in the kitchen area – and a leaflet outlining the requirements for the storage room and food storage conditions.
At the municipal non-profit enterprise “Zhovkivska Hospital” of the Zhovkivska City Council, members of the monitoring group held a meeting with Director Yevhen Yosypovych Moskvyak, during which they discussed the benefits of the facility’s participation in the UN World Food Programme’s Institutional Food Programme, as well as the requirements for the storage, record-keeping and use of the donated products.
“The food supplies received from the UN World Food Programme are a significant help to the hospital. We are currently carrying out extensive renovation work in the medical wards, which requires substantial funds. Thanks to the supplies provided, we are saving budget funds on food costs and can redirect these funds to the most essential works. We are grateful to the Lviv Agrarian Chamber and the UN World Food Programme for this extremely important initiative, which is both much-needed and timely,” noted Yevhen Moskv’yak.
Representatives of the monitoring group had the opportunity to check the food storage conditions at the hospital, visited the kitchen, where on that day they were preparing milk soup with pasta and buckwheat porridge using products supplied in June as part of the Institutional Food Programme, and also reviewed the weekly menu and examined the logbook recording the received products, including their expiry dates.
The monitoring results indicate that the institutions visited are conscientiously complying with the requirements for the storage and use of the humanitarian aid provided, to the benefit of their patients, with a view to improving their quality of life and health.
