This year, the Institutional Food Programme of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with the Lviv Agrarian Chamber, launched an initiative across the Lviv and Ternopil regions

January 25 2024

On 22 and 23 January, a local team of experts from the Lviv Agrarian Chamber visited 22 institutions in the Sambir, Drohobych and Stryi local communities that provide hot meals and accommodation to internally displaced persons and people with special needs.

Specifically, these included psychoneurological residential care homes, hospitals, social care homes for children and the elderly, residential social care units, special schools, children’s residential care homes, geriatric care homes, multi-disciplinary educational and rehabilitation centres, and social services centres.

Each of these institutions received a set of long-life food products for preparing hot meals, calculated at 6.42 kg per person. The set includes premium-grade wheat flour enriched with trace elements, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B9 and B12, iron, zinc and gluten. The energy value of 100 g of flour is 1,418 kJ, as well as pasta, oat groats and fortified sunflower oil. All products are certified under the ISO 22000:2018 and FSSC 22000 food safety systems.

This initiative will run throughout the year and aims to improve the nutritional conditions of the most socially vulnerable groups. Food deliveries will be made to designated institutions on a monthly basis. In the future, we plan to expand the food parcel range to include other food items, such as buckwheat and sugar. We hope to involve local processors among our product suppliers.
